Reyes Mate (1942) is a Spanish philosopher. He teaches research in the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas,in the Instituto de Filosofía. He has been in charge of two research projects for more than 20 years. One of them is “Philosophy after the Holocaust”,in which he thinks about epistemology,ethics,politics and aesthetics in the light of the catastrophe experienced by Europe in the 20th century,analyzing the logic that lead to it. The other is “Thinking in Spanish”,which tries to create a cultural Iberoamerican community. The result is the Enciclopedia Iberoamericana de Filosofía,with 32 volumes published in 23 years and which is now almost completed. Amongst his last published works are Medianoche en la historia. Comentarios a las tesis de Walter Benjamín “Sobre el concepto de historia” (Editorial Trotta,Madrid 2006 y 2009) and La herencia del olvido (Errata naturae,Madrid,2008),which was Premio Nacional de Ensayo.
